First Woman President of India Her Excellency Smt. Pratibha
Patil
12th President of India Smt. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil was
born on 19th Dec., 1934 at Nadgaon in Maharashtra.
She got her primary education at R.R. School, Jalgaon and
did her master's degree in Econom- ics from Moolji Jeetha College, Jalgaon. She
got her lawyer's degree from Bombay College. She had been a brilliant player of
table tennis.
She started her work as an advocate in Jalgaon.Taking
interest in social work, she worked for the upliftment of poor women's living
standard. She won her first election at the age of 27 yr. in Maharashtra
Legislature Assembly. She was a minister in Public Health and Tourism in 1972
and served as Social Welfare Minister from 1972-74 in Maharashtra. She left the
imprint of her calibre in various ministries. She was the leader of opposition
in Maharashtra Legislature. She was in the Seat of Governor, Rajasthan from 8th
Nov. 2004 to 21st June, 2007. She was married to Dr. Devi Singh Shekhawat. On
25th July, 2007 she took the pledge as the 12th President of Free India.
